National-Hosted NAIFA Courses
If your chapter or area needs education, you may request that a National-Hosted class be offered in your area by contacting Lee Ann Searight the National Office at 312.321.6830. While your chapter will not retain any of the net proceeds, the National Office will take responsibility for all logistical and financial issues.

The characteristics of this model are:

• The National Office handles all logistics, registration, marketing and is responsible for all expenses directly.
• The National Office will list the class on the website (www.naifa.com) with registration information and send up to two emails to NAIFA members in your area.
• The National Office will handle notification to the appropriate state boards and certificate distribution (prior and post distribution).

For more information on scheduling a National NAIFA course, go to http://www.naifa.com/education/edresources.cfm and download the 2008 Education Handbook.

NAIFA Announces Position on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Agreement
NAIFA applauds the attempt to secure appraiser independence in the real estate financing process in the proposed agreement. Despite its laudable intent, we find that the current structure of the agreement may lead to unanticipated and potentially damaging results for borrowers, the public, real property appraisers, and users of real property appraisals. Joint response to the Cuomo, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac agreement

NAIFA has signed a joint letter with the Appraisal Institute, the American Society of Appraisers and the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers in response to the recent Cuomo, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac agreement. NAIFA has expressed its position on each of five major concerns contained within the letter. The main reason for our decision is to show unity among the appraisers—we can speak with one voice. The entire letter can be found in the MEMBERS ONLY section under NAIFA NEWS.

Where will NAIFA go on this issue? NAIFA is developing it's own letter that coincides with the joint letter. Staff has compiled an extensive list of state attorney generals, newspapers, magazines, etc. that will receive NAIFA's original response. We will put together “talking points” for the Board, state directors, etc. so that everyone will understand and use them to support our position.

We will continue to keep you up-to-date. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please contact the NAIFA Headquarters office at (312) 321-6830 or via email: info@naifa.com.

The purpose of this document is to provide a general summary of the comments received to date (which will form a basis for the work plans of the ASB and the AQB) and to solicit additional feedback.
